Although I am a Colorado girl, I have lived in southern California since 2000. I began my adult life working as an occupational therapist but, dissatisfied, went on to gain a Master's degree in environmental health epidemiology. I track time by the ages of my two girls, one born just months after moving to California, and the other just days before my 40th birthday. My most unconventional experience was living in a tepee for two years in Colorado, my most humbling experience is motherhood, and one of my favorite experiences was living in France for a year. I'm more of a cat person, but would have a dog if it wasn't so dog-like. I'd love to live in a tree house, volunteer for hospice, and build furniture out of paper mâché. The University of California employs me full-time as a researcher and writer, and my girls employ me full-time as a mother, leaving few undepleted resources for creative writing, art, friends, traveling, exercising my mechanical inclinations (building things), psychotherapy, existential contemplation, reading, coffee shops, the theater (David Sedaris!), running, and second-hand clothes shopping, not necessarily in that order.
